The 3rd International Sustainable City Exhibition: A Global Showcase for the Future of Urban Management
Hamidreza Gholamzadeh, Secretary-General of the Asian Mayors Forum and Head of International Affairs of Tehran Municipality: “The 3rd International Sustainable City Exhibition is a global showcase for the future of urban management.”
In an exclusive interview with the news headquarters of the 3rd International Sustainable City Exhibition, Hamidreza Gholamzadeh emphasized that exhibitions serve as pioneers of global interaction. He stated that this event, in addition to showcasing the latest achievements of industries and technologies, symbolizes Iran’s resilience in the international arena and provides a unique opportunity to apply artificial intelligence in managing urban crises such as traffic and air pollution.
Dr. Gholamzadeh explained that the main function of such events is to present the latest innovations while creating an environment for interaction among different sectors. He added: “Industry leaders, the private sector, and city managers come together to present their needs and capabilities. Municipalities require contractors and equipment, while the private sector presents its best products and services. The result of this interaction is knowledge sharing, technology exchange, experience comparison, and the establishment of real collaborations.”
Highlighting Kish Island’s long-standing role as a hub for international connections, he noted: “With its proper infrastructure and ease of access, Kish serves as an ideal pilot location for hosting global events. The fact that this exhibition is being held after recent difficult circumstances carries a clear message: it can mark the beginning of a new wave of international cooperation in the field of sustainable development.”
He further stressed that artificial intelligence has become one of the main tools of urban management. “Problems such as traffic and air pollution, if addressed only by traditional methods, require enormous costs and time. But through AI simulations and modeling, decisions can be made more precisely, errors reduced, and expenses significantly lowered.”
Gholamzadeh also pointed out that sustainable cities are not solely dependent on infrastructure but also require cultural development and a shift in perspective among urban managers. “If such exhibitions continue, and if mayors of major cities actively participate alongside knowledge-based companies and industries, they can become role models for the future governance and management of Iran’s metropolitan areas.”
Concluding his remarks, he said: “The 3rd International Sustainable City Exhibition is more than just an exhibition; it is an opportunity to redesign the future of cities. I hope this gathering will become a milestone on the path of sustainable development and international cooperation for Iran.”
It should be noted that the 3rd International “Sustainable City” Exhibition will be held from October 13 to 16, 2025 (21–24 Mehr 1404) at the International Exhibition and Convention Center of Kish Island. This prestigious event, focusing on sustainable urban development, provides an effective platform for constructive engagement among officials, experts, private sector stakeholders, and international organizations.
